The Project

This blog is in honor of my father. When we were little, my father used to tell my sister, my brother, and I stories about this nutty guy he named "Carlos the Boogerhead." To follow the tradition he set, I will be taking suggestions throughout the week and post my own version of the Carlos stories every Friday. First one I will do to get the ball rolling, then the adventures Carlos goes on will all depend on you. If you wish to share them with your kids like my dad did with us, that's great! Otherwise, keep them to yourself, share with a friend, the more the merrier.

Love to all!

What does Carlos do next?

I am always interested to know what Carlos does next. Join the Carlos the Boogerhead Facebook page and let me know. I may use your idea for an upcoming story. Of, if you don't have Facebook, e-mail me at sara.crecelius@gmail.com.

Carlos Goes on a Boat

As Carlos the Boogerhead walked up to Alfonso’s house, he noticed a huge boat in the street. In front of the boat was Alfonso Fonzio, who was washing his car, like he does every Friday morning. “Hi Alfonso, what’s going on?”

Alfonso looked up and smiled, “We’re going to the lake. Want to go?”

“Sure!” Carlos answered as Alfonso’s father walked up.

The friends got into the back seat. Once Alfonso’s dad was behind the wheel, they started toward the lake. Mr. Fonzio told the two friends the rules about boating all the way there. “So, remember your life jackets, you two!”

Carlos nodded enthusiastically as he saw the water appear in front of them. Slowly, Mr. Fonzio pulled into the park and started to put the boat into the water. Carlos got more and more excited as he watched the boat starting to float on its own. As soon as Mr. Fonzio said it was ok, the two friends hopped on deck and dutifully put on their life coats. The boat moved gently beneath them as they walked the length of the ship, back and forth. Once they settled on a spot, Mr. Fonzio got the boat prepared and started it up. Carlos watched Mr. Fonzio pull a cord similar to one on a lawn mower. After three tries, the motor started and Mr. Fonzio slowly eased the boat further into the lake.

Alfonso and Carlos laid down and looked at the clouds. There was no noise but the sound of the engine as Mr. Fonzio sped up the boat a little faster. Suddenly, Carlos’ stomach started to ache. Ignoring it, Carlos watched the clouds move. Suddenly the stomach ache got worse.

“You ok, Carlos? You’re looking a little green,” Alfonso said.

Carlos nodded, “Maybe a Sprite will help.”

Standing up, Carlos went to the cooler and grabbed a Sprite. After chugging it down, Carlos’ stomach started to feel a little better until the boat started to shake a little more. Then, his stomach started to turn again.

“I think he’s seasick, Alfonso,” Mr. Fonzio yelled from the motor.

“This is a lake,” Carlos argued quickly.

Mr. Fonzio stopped the boat. Almost immediately Carlos started to feel better. The gentle motion of the boat still turned his stomach a little, but it was obvious that stopping the boat made Carlos well. Mr. Fonzio walked up to Carlos and said, “It’s ok, a lot of people get sea sick.”

Mr. Fonzio kept the boat as still as possible until Carlos started to feel a lot better before heading home. Carlos sat up straight and watched the fish jumping in the water and the trees pass by to try to keep his mind off his stomach. When they finally reached the place to pull the boat in, Carlos jumped to shore and kissed the wet dirt. Laughing, Mr. Fonzio pulled the boat in. When the boat was secure, Mr. Fonzio drove Carlos back to his house.

“I’m sorry you got sick, Carlos,” Alfonso said as Carlos opened the door.

“It’s ok. See you next week?”

“See you Friday,” Alfonso said as he closed the door and his dad drove off.
